JOURNAL ENTRY DAY 12: JUNE 27, 2007
Today was a great day for me on Church St. I was able to speak with four people in length about why we were there. One gentleman walked up and asked if he could debate with me about what we were doing. I hesitantly told him yes, not knowing what was to come. I explained that we were praying for purity in our churches and in the nation. He then replied; “What do you mean by that.” I began to describe that about fifty percent of the men, and a large percentage of women in our churches are struggling with an addiction to pornography. I went on to talk about how billboards, magazines, and TV shows have a huge sexual base, and that we were praying for the people of America to develop a desire for morality. I shared my heart, laying out to him how we must return to being a Godly nation.
Our conversation continued to grow and deepen. He shared with me that he and his wife had been talking earlier in the week about their small daughter. He told his wife, that what scared him most, was that he may not be able to stop his little girl from deciding to give her virginity away at 10 years old, or in her deciding to be a lesbian when she reaches seventeen. He looked at me with true concern on his face, and said; “I don’t know how to prevent that from happening.” I told him that taking a stand with us was a good start, and he agreed that he would return later on.
A little later another man inquisitively asked what we were doing. Again, I shared our intentions of prayer and repentance. “Have you not read the Bible,” he asked. Continuing on, he said; “The Bible is full of stories regarding sexual perversion, and even David committed adultery with Bathsheba.” I agreed with him, but stated that statistics show that all types of sexual acts are continuing to grow worse.
Can you believe that one in every three to four girls, and one in every six to seven boys will be sexually molested before they are out of their teens. The man believed that it had always been this way, but the ways we now in finding out information and reporting on it is much better. I agreed that the current system is much better, and maybe he was right to some extent. I asked; “So does that mean that we do nothing? Do we just continue to ignore the problem?”
I inquired if he had children or grandchildren, and his response was yes to children. “Don’t you want them to have a better chance in life, and a better chance that these things will not happen to them? If you do, we have to start somewhere,” I declared. He was quiet for a moment, and said; “I have never thought of it that way before.” He then asked; “Isn’t greed, pride and slander just as bad to God? Are they not part of being pure?” Again, I agreed and explained that these things were not the mandate that God had given us right now. We are responsible to stay target until God releases us. He thanked me for the time and said; “bless you,” as he walked away.
God brings many people into our lives. We must boldly proclaim what the Lord has laid upon our hearts. He gives us the words to speak when we are willing to engage.
