Matthew Stark is a dynamic evangelist, speaker and visionary whose message, through the power of the Holy Spirit, transforms lives bringing about repentance, freedom and deliverance. He has been called a revivalist, reformer and revolutionary by many key leaders and is a standout among a new generation of national leaders and prophetic voices emerging in this vital hour. Matthew is the founder and director of Pure Life Revolution, which has its base in Nashville, Tennessee.
Matthew was born in Dallas, Texas, to Evangelist Charles and Alyce Stark. When Matthew was only ten days old, the Starks loaded up their old bus and went back out on the evangelistic field, fulfilling the great commission. With an upbringing in these “old time” revival meetings, Matthew has a deep inheritance and understanding of God’s presence, giftings and the moving of His Spirit.
In 1989 the Stark’s settled in Ozark, Alabama, where they founded and pastored Word Alive Outreach Center. It was during his High School years that Matthew began to rebel and drift away from the Lord. Finding an outlet and excelling in basketball, Matthew used his ability to gain influence and favor. He began running with gang members, carrying a pistol and selling drugs. This life found him arrested at the age of eighteen and facing ten years in prison. Through much prayer from his parents and their church family, Matthew’s case was thrown out of court one year later. Not learning from this experience, a downward spiral began that would last another seven years. Abandoning intimacy with the Lord, the void was filled with women, drugs and alcohol.
After working for a Fox television affiliate in Alabama for two years, he fulfilled a dream of his parents, by reluctantly attending Oral Roberts University in 1996 to continue studying television production. With his heart not in the right place and mind definitely not fixed on God, he quickly found himself mixed in with the wrong people, breaking rules and rebelling against all authority. In this season of life Matthew wanted nothing to do with God, the church or anything with “Christian” in it.
Cascading out of control, Matthew began bartending and developed severe drug and sexual addictions. Easily being caught up in the inner circles of the dark side, he wound up with mafia connections, later becoming part owner of a “rave” club. It was in this season that Matthew began to completely lose control totally breaking down. No longer finding refuge in the fantasy world he had created around him, he began to call out to God for answers. Matthew has an explosive testimony of God’s miraculous power delivering Him from a life of drugs, alcohol and sexual addiction.
After experiencing the bottom Matthew submitted and gave his life renewed to Christ Jesus; God faithfully and quickly began overhauling Matthew, fulfilling the prayers and prophecies that were spoken over him since birth. With his life now soundly on the foundation of Christ Jesus Matthew was ordained in 2001.
Matthew was led to mid-state Wisconsin, where he became the associate pastor of River of Life Outreach Center. It was here that he met his beautiful wife, Shana, and in Autumn of 2001, they were wed. After two years of service in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin God lead the Starks to Nashville, TN.
In Nashville, Matthew and Shana served as urban missionaries in one of Nashville’s largest and dangerous inner city neighborhoods. It was here they served for four years as youth pastors and senior leaders of Provision International Ministries and the Fortress of Hope Church. Out of the faithful service of reaching out to the poor and disenfranchised in their own back yard, God deposited in Matthew the vision of Pure Life Revolution.
For the past two years Matthew has spoken internationally on God’s heart for a pure bride. He tackles the “tough” and sometimes “taboo” issues of real life that don’t often get talked about in our Sunday morning services. His message of Pure Life Revolution brings freedom, deliverance, and hope to those tempted, caught and bound in the clutches of the enemy. Through the power of the Holy Spirit, he is sure to open your eyes and awaken you to a new level of holiness in the Lord. God has placed within him a burning passion for today’s young people and to see the church walk in the power, authority and fullness that God has called His people to be. The Church must have her voice back, and Matthew is purposed in seeing this happen.
